Style Tips
Whether you are shopping for yourself or for a gift - it is sometimes tricky to know where to start. So here are some hints from Harriet that we hope will help...
Redheads
Redheads look wonderful in all shades of green, aqua and blue. In particular dark green, teal and cobolt blue look great on you. For a more subtle look for work, cream, ivory, muted golds and chocolate browns can also look great. Redheads often particularly suit rose gold. I would advise staying away from pink, red and lilac unless you are very visual and know the exact shades to go for and don't choose yellow or orange and black is usually too far away from your fair skin to be worn to good effect. Our amazonite jewellery would be particularly good for you.
Blondes
Blondes always look great in red, blue, all shades of pink, grey and lilac. I would advise avoiding pale beige and pale gold tones as these can give you a washed-out look. Stay away from yellow and be careful with orange to get the right shade. Black is also not usually a good idea as a colour for you to wear, although black or grey jewellery can look striking if mixed with the right outfit colour. Our grey agate almond pendants on silk necklaces would be a good choice for you.
Brunettes
Brunettes with deep brown hair usually look great in all of the really strong colours - red, hot pink, strong green, cobalt blue and bright orange can be a good choice. Our red, orange and yellow jade pendants would be a good choice for you. Those with lighter brown hair are usually more suited to slightly softer tones of the same colours. For example our long purple scatter cluster pendant could be a good choice. Black can also look good on you and plain silver jewellery can stand out well against dark hair too. Our dramatic onyx almond silver torque necklace could be a good choice for you.
Black Hair
Strong colours look superb on you and you can really stand out in bright, strong green, purple and blue in particular. Try our green malachite necklace or pendant. As long as you don't have a lot of flush in your facial colouring, red and pink can look great too. For a more subtle look black looks fabulous on you and plain silver jewellery stands out beautifully - try our silver shell pearl jewellery or our silver satinised curl pendant and our satinised silver stud earrings.
Curly Hair
Our Swarovski crystal curl earrings and our summersault earrings look particularly good with curly hair.
Bob Length Hair or Straight Hair
Try our waterfall earrings as these look fabulous for you.
Short Hair
Studs look great on you - try our coloured river pearl studs in particular. Longer earrings with tassles like our long cluster earrings are also great for you.
V-Neck
A pendant looks better than a full necklace as it will follow the line of the clothing. We have lots to choose from!
Round-neck
Go for a full necklace with a matching bracelet or ring. Our three strand invisible thread necklaces are good with a round neck as are our necklaces with evenly spaced river pearls, or our random medley necklaces with river pearls and other gemstone spheres.
Halter-neck
A long necklace can sometimes work (like our long strands of shell pearls or river pearls). Alternatively try no necklace at all with long bold drop earrings and a matching ring or bracelet. Try our white shell disk earrings on a long hook or our large shell pearl earrings.
Polo-neck
A long pendant worn outside looks great like our citrine and smokey quartz necklace or one of our long strands of shell pearls or river pearls.
Short and Heavy
Stay away from tiny round stud earrings and go for a medium length earring - too long can drag the eye downwards and emphasise your size. So a stud and drop style can be perfect for every day wear: try our pearl stud and drop earrings. For evening earrings you can go for something larger as long as it is still light; try our waterfall earrings or almond shaped hoops. Jewellery that is too delicate can also emphasise your size and a medium-build pendant like our long cluster pendants or almond shaped pendants (like our emerald green jade pendant) are about the right size for you.
Very Tall and Slim
Go big and bold on your earrings to help you seem slightly shorter. For example our shaped aventurine long drop earrings, our long cluster earrings or our lilac charolite earrings. If you have trouble with the eye level of much shorter men (!) go for and eyecatching pendant like the striking orange agate and crystal pendant or our black onyx almond and hematite cluster pendant.
Double D Plus
For every-day wear you should either go for a short necklace or choker to attract the eye upwards and keep you looking balanced (like our invisible thread 3 strand necklaces or our short cluster pendants). For a really sexy look go for a long pendant maybe with a tail or tassle front which just disappears out of sight down your cleavage. Try our Peach Botswana agate necklace on an Italian cable or our long pale green Prehnite pendant for example.
Double A
Try a really dramatic piece to draw the eye. For example our bright red quartz heart, large blue jade and swarovski crystal pendant or large purple jade drop necklace.
Over 65
Chances are that your neck is not looking as good as it used to. If so, in the winter it is best to stick to a high or polo neck and go for a selection of longer necklaces and pendants worn on the outside. Try our long shell pearl strands, our grey agate almond pendants on silk necklets or our smokey quartz and citrine pendant (you can find this on our November birthstone link). In the summer, invest in a few multi-strand necklaces like our river pearl and Swarovski crystal three strand necklaces. Also your long strand of shell pearls can be looped round three times and worn short in the summer.
